CKOC: It all began at a five-watt radio station at King William and John ...

In 1922, CKOC began operation at the northwest corner of King William and John Streets as Canada’s third radio station.

Herb Slack, who owned the Wentworth Radio Supply Company, had been looking for a way to sell radios, and he figured the best way to do that was to start a radio station. He spent $500 to buy a licence and enough equipment to start CKOC in the old Windsor Hotel.

Now, 50,000-watts, the station recently changed formats from All-Sports TSN 1150 to Bloomberg Radio, a business news format.
